Begining Drawing classes are being taught by Colleen Gilgenbach at the VIVA Gallery in Viroqua. There will be four classes of basic drawing instruction each Monday in May. Also at VIVA Gallery on each Tuesday during May Colleen will be teaching the basics of water color painting. Each class is only 50 dollars for all four sessions.

And don’t forget about VIVA’s “First Thursday” May 7th from 5 to 7p.m. They are hosting local wildlife artist Dan Hazlett. If you are interested in any of VIVA’s events you can call the gallery at 608-637-6918 for more information.

If you are interested in collage a one day work shop called “Rip and Tear Collage,” with artist/instructor Barb Decker, is being offered at The Pump House. The workshop is from 1:00 to 4:00pm May 5th. Cost is $40.00 for Pump House members and $50.00 for non members. Materials are included.

Pedal Pushers Cafe in partnership with Cornucopia Art Center is hosting “Burger Art” and “Burger Eating” contests Saturday May 9th, 2009. The “Burger Art” contest is open to all ages with three judging categories (K-6, 7-12, and overall winner). With the subject of “hamburgers,” non-perishable art in any media is welcome. There is no entry fee and pre-registration is not required. Art will be dispayed for public judging (one ballot per person) at Cornucopia Art Center on Saturday, May 9 between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. Art work can be brought to the Art Center earlier that week, Tuesday-Friday May 5-8 between the hours of 10 a.m and 5 p.m. OR the morning of Saturday May 9 between 10 and 11 a.m. Cornucopia Art Center is located at 103 Parkway Ave N in Lanesboro, MN. Prizes for the Winners of the Art Contest are $50 gift certificates for art supplies (one for K-6 and 7-12 winners), and Free Burgers for a Year at Pedal Pushers Cafe for the overall winner. The Burger Eating Contest will be at 4 p.m. on Saturday, May 9th at Pedal Pushers Cafe in Lanesboro, MN. Pre-registration is required at Pedal Pushers by Friday, May 8. Also coming up at The Pump House is a one-day stained glass workshop titled “Lost Planet Kaleidoscope” with artists/instructors Beth Rose and Laurie Nass. This full-day workshop is being held on Saturday May 16th from 9:00am to 5:00pm. Cost is $195:00 for Pump House members and $205:00 for non members. Most materials are included and a tool list is available upon request.     I just found this site accidently and it is wonderful. Thank you so much for providing so much information about local art in our community. This site is just what our area has needed.
