Emily Jarrett is a multi-generational artist, both her father and mother were professional artists (John
and Val Tupa). Emily said “If I had to choose a painting for The Spotlight it would have to be one of my portraits. Portraits are simply the most challenging and difficult to do well. I learned to paint portraits primarily from wathcing my mother. I was always fascinated with how she could achieve a likeness of a person, but never thought I could do it myself.” Jarrett uses the techniques and traditions of fine representational art to create works of art that will stand the test of time and finds inspiration from Great Masters like John Singer Sargent (1856-1925).
As well as receiving art instruction from her parents, Jarrett has been influenced and gained expertise from accomplished artists such as Peggy Baumgaertner, Schmid, and Kinstler. Jarrett has a Master Degree from Saint Mary’s University of Minnesota. She has lived in La Crosse for the past 25 years.
