The Spotlight August 14th, 2009

In this weeks’ Spotlight meet muralist and faux finish painter Laura Wieczorek.

As a young girl I always enjoyed drawing on my own as well as participating in art classes.  Time went by and I wanted to pursue an education in Fine Art, although my family felt it an impractical career choice and encouraged me toward another avenue, nursing.  So, I completed my degree in nursing and worked as a Registered nurse.

While in college I met my husband and became a mom to 4 children, each a blessing.  My passion for creating fun in my children’s bedrooms began.  It all started with a hand painted fairy here and there, fairy dust included.  Then some whimsical clouds on the ceiling.  Next was an underwater aquarium with all kinds of ocean life swimming right before their eyes.  In between I created new looks throughout our home with different faux finishes.

Friends, relatives and others heard of my small murals and unique faux finishes on walls and furniture.  This led them to ask me to put together ideas and paint for them.  My faux finish and mural business officially began in May of 2000.  Helping home & business owners choose colors to compliment their likes and create the ambiance they want, with one of a kind faux finishes and hand painted murals, is an exciting process to be part of.

With time, my business has paved the path for me to put my paintings on canvas and masonite.  I want to create and pass my art along to individuals to take into their homes and enjoy.  Currently the Folk Art–Americana style of my work is brought forth by my family’s recent move to the country & appreciating a simpler style of living.

For me, color is everywhere and thus is the opportunity to interpret and create.  I’m continually learning and enjoying the experience of being an artist.  Art and the process of creating have always been where I’ve felt most grounded and naturally myself.
