In today’s spotlight meet ceramic artist Kelly Jean Ohl. Her work is shaped by her intrigue about how our sensory awareness affects our experience of visual art. She uses texture to invite the viewer to use their senses to experience her work–not only to look but to touch and listen and explore in ways that are not often encouraged. “When a viewer picks up one of my pieces they see the detailed carving, feel the unique tactile quality of the surface and then also realize that the piece makes sounds. This is my way of acknowledging that the work was meant to be touched. it’s part of the experience,” says Kelly Jean.
Kelly Jean’s ceramic work has been exhibited in more than 50 galleries throughout the United States. She
lives and works in Lanesboro, Minnesota and she will be exhibiting her work at the Cornucopia Art Center in Lanesboro in a couple weeks. Sticks and Stones opens May 16th and runs through July 12, 2009. There is an opening reception on Saturday evening May 16th, at the Art Center, from 6-8:00pm. The reception will include “live music, good food and drink.” The exhibit and reception is free to the public.
