Art Happenings and Help Wanted

Green Bay Street Studio in La Crosse is holding a One Year Anniversary Celebration this Saturday March 7th at 7:00pm.  Artists include Jenn Bushman, Erich Boldt, Matt Duckett, Susan Timm and Lisa Ulik.  Coulee Region Art recently spotlighted Matt, Susan and Lisa.  See their art in the local area artists slideshow,  and meet them in person to see what they’ve been up to for the past year.  Address is 1500 Green Bay Street, ste 510, La Crosse.

Also don’t miss the “Cabin Fever Art Show & Sale.”  This is a fine arts and craft exhibition that will be showcasing the work and visions of 27 locally established and emerging artists from the 7 Rivers Region.  Meet the artists and see the wide range of art including painting, photography, pottery, stained glass, jewelry, quilts, and more.  The show and sale is Saturday March 14th, 2009 from 10:00am to 4:00pm at the Cleary Alumni & Friends Center University of Wisconsin, La Crosse Campus.  Address is 615 East Ave. North, La Crosse, WI.  In addition to showing their work the exhibitors will also be celebrating their participation in professional development programs for artists, Learning Communities of Artists:  Best Business Practices, and Artists Planning for Profit programs.  Both programs have been developed and offered by the UW-L Continuing Education and Extension and the Small Business Development Center.  The event is free and open to the public.  For more information contact Martina Skobic at 608-785-8105.

Last but not least, The Pump House Regional Arts Center is starting up a new volunteer opportunity called the “Docent Program.”  Docents answer the telephone, greet people at the doors, tell them some history about the building, the art exhibits, and the programs offered by the center.  Docents will also be trained to help out with other activities such as taking ticket orders, art work sales, and printing tickets.  Whatever your interests the Pump House says they have something for you.  They’re even looking for people to help as concert helpers, reading series hosts, painters, small repairs, clean-up projects, grounds keepers, event planning and much more.  An informational meeting is being held this Tuesday February 24th at 5:30pm.  If you can’t attend but still want to help, or for more information, call 608-785-1434 or email info@thepumphouse.org
