Art Events

I just wanted to post a few art events going on and coming up in our area. I have mentioned a couple in previous posts but thought I would mention them again.

Currently at the Cornucopia Art Center in Lanesboro, MN:
Juried Sales Gallery Artist Spotlight–Ceramics by Martye Allen, sculptures and large vessels. This exhibit runs through October 25th, 2009 and is FREE to the public. Also at the Cornucopia is the Iraqi Art Exhibition–oil, acrylic and pastel work by contemporary Iraqi artists. Presented in cooperation with the Iraqi and American Reconciliation Project. FREE to the public and runs through November 15th, 2009. For more information on these events click on the links above.

At The Pump House La Crosse, WI:
Mark My Words, a collaborative exhibition three years in the making, featuring twenty poets and twenty artists. This exhibition runs through November 14th, 2009.
In the Front Gallery Eva Marie Restal’s ceramic works combine flora and fauna into intriguing forms that appear to have come alternately from Lewis Carroll or nature itself. Her hand built pieces use slab and coil techniques to capture images of flowers and birds and explore personalities, events, inspirations, and people. Her works come in a variety of sizes and shapes, with a similarly wide array of functions. Her works will entwine the Pump House until November 14th, 2009. There is an artist reception October 10th. Viroqua Empty Bowls Project is doing their part to help fight Hunger.  On Saturday October 17th the Empty Bowls Project will be serving their annual Soup and Bread to combat world hunger and poverty, and to teach about the connection art has in society.

Local area potters have made the bowls and donated them to the project.  Participants in the event are asked to make a minimum donation of 20 dollars.  When the meal is done, participants can keep the bowl.  The diners can also choose where they would like their donations to go:  local food pantries, international hunger relief, or the Empty Bowls Project.

This year the event is being held Saturday October 17th from 4:30pm to 7:30pm at Good Shepard Lutheran Church–504 South Main Street Viroqua, WI.  For more information contact Devorah Yahn (608) 637-6701 or email her at devorahyahn@frontiernet.net

And finally at the University Wisconsin-LaCrosse Art Gallery, Dan Senn, Sculpture and Sound.
